What GenZero tests

GenZero is a pilot programme exploring whole-school net zero retrofits at speed, integrating fabric, heat pump, solar PV, EV charge points and curriculum integration. The pilot scope is published by the participating schools and partners.

Participating schools and outturn costs

Pilot schools sit across England with a mix of primaries and secondaries. Published outturn data captures both capital and the operational savings observed in-use.

Technology stack

Fabric upgrade, ASHP retrofit, rooftop solar with battery storage, EV charge points, BMS publishing data to a sustainability dashboard. The stack is the closest published comparator for a 2030-ready school.

Lessons for PSDS bids

GenZero's published lessons emphasise the importance of bundled scope, the value of pre-bid fabric surveys, and the criticality of early DNO engagement. All three line up with PSDS Phase 4 scoring.
